Awareness of Dementia and Dementia Care Level 2

What do the qualifications cover?

These qualifications aim to develop the knowledge and skills needed when providing positive care for people with dementia and their families. The Level 2 Award provides an awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia. The Level 2 Certificate builds on the knowledge gained from the Award, whilst developing skills needed in the workplace when working under supervision. Both qualifications are aligned to the National Dementia Strategy.

Who are they suitable for?

Anyone who wants to work in Social Care in either local authority or private care environments. They are also suitable for qualified practitioners who have not cover dementia care in previous qualifications.

What are the entry requirements?

You should be at least 16 years old. CACHE does not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines.

How many credits are required to complete them?

The Award requires 8 credits and the Certificate requires 18.

How are they assessed?

They will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE.

Do you need to be working to take the qualifications?

To complete the Award you do not need to be working as it is a knowledge only qualification. To take the Certificate you will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
