What does the qualification cover?
To this end you will learn the major specialism’s within computing which include the following units:
Unit 2 Computer Systems, suitable for a career as a PC Technician or Manager
Unit 43 Networking Infrastructure, suitable for a career as a Network Specialist
Unit 17 Database Design Concepts, suitable for a career as a Database Administrator or Manager.
Unit 14 Website Design and unit 15 Website Management, suitable for a career as a Web Developer. These two units will be taught in conjunction with unit 17 to enable the creation of a live, bespoke website with suitable content in the front-end through to data-handling features in the back-end.
Unit 4 Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation, suitable for a career in Project Management
Unit 38 3D Computer Modelling and Animation
Unit 39 and 41 `Computer Games Design and Development¿ and `Programming in Java¿, suitable for a career in software development
Units 46, 48 and 49 Network Security, IT Security Management and Digital Forensics. This is a relatively new area that is much in-demand in industry currently.
In addition to the specialist skills you will obtain above, you will also learn about the wider, transferable skills that are becoming increasingly sought-after in today¿s jobs market in Unit 3 Employability and Professional Development

Who is it suitable for?
Anyone who wants to develop a professional career in the IT industry.
What are the entry requirements?
2 A Levels including Computing/ICT or
OCN Access to IT/ Computing (minimum 45 level 3 points in relevant units)
BTEC National Diploma (Merit) or
(Mature Entry with preferably 2 years in the IT industry)
all subject to interview)
How is it assessed?
Both practical and written course work is assessed at the end of each unit. If you reach the required standard you will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction. You have the option to resubmit your work during the course to improve your grades.
You must achieve a minimum of 240 credits to be awarded the HND in Computing.
The assignments will include projects and practical work which will be drawn from relevant case studies
